Kuuha Zeppuugeki (ToD2)

Kuuha Zeppuugeki as it appears in Tales of Destiny 2.

Sonic Blast (空破絶風撃 Kuuha Zeppuugeki?, "Sky Tearing Severing Wind Strike") is a Wind-elemental arcane arte in the Tales series that is learned exclusively by sword-wielders.

Arte Description and History[]

The user thrusts at the enemy while jumping back and then follows with a thrusting attack forward. In some games, a horizontal green tornado may appear when performing the second thrust, dealing extra Wind-elemental damage.

In Tales of Destiny 2, it is introduced as an arcane arte used by Kyle Dunamis, where he points his sword at the opponent from his left side, before hopping forward, performing a single, instant thrust. He then steps back, backs his sword and aims from his right side, before performing a second thrust, as spirals of wind orbit horizontally around his sword arm. This arte can be extended to activate Zeppa Messhougeki. In Tales of Crestoria, Kyle adds a backward hop in between the two thrusts.

In Tales of the Abyss, Sonic Blast is the last of four artes Luke fon Fabre can learn from the sidequest that involves finding books on the Albert-style swordsmanship. Having learned Slag Assault, and after clearing the Radiation Gate, the party finds a man near the window at the library in Daath with the textbook. Intent on funding the Order of Lorelei, the man charges a premium of 150000 gald. Realizing the situation, Luke returns home to learn Susanne has already learned the truth behind Luke’s previous behavior. She gives Luke the money on the condition that he trusts her more. Luke heads right back to the library and purchases the book. In execution, the user steps forward with his back leg and slashes downward at an opposite angle. He then hops back before stepping forward with the same leg, and trusting forward, as spirals of wind orbit horizontally around his sword arm.

In the original Tales of Innocence, Spada Belforma slashes down right with his left sword before stepping forward with his right leg and thrusting forward with his right sword, summoning a crescent projectile of wind around the blade.

In Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, Wingul steps forward with his left leg. As he does, he fakes an upward slash before performing an uppercut with his left fist as he performs a backflip, before charging forward and slashing down left.

In Tales of Link, Kyle Dunamis originally uses Shikkuu Rensatsuken during a cutscene, but this was changed to Sonic Blast in localization. In Tales of the Rays, at the sixth or later action in a chain, Kyle's version alters into Zeppa Messhougeki, referencing the extension in Tales of Destiny 2 while Stahn's version alters into Blast Fang in a moving or standing state.
