Ami Burklight (アミィ・バークライト Amii Baakuraito?, "Ami Barklight"), is a minor character in Tales of Phantasia. She is Chester Burklight's little sister and lives with him in their home in Toltus.

Ami lives in the village of Toltus along with her brother, Chester. They live alone together, as their parents were killed while they were little. One day, Chester and his friend, Cress Albane, go hunting in South Forest. Ami gives Cress a stuffed doll version of him as a present, and Chester gives her an apple that the item shop owner gives him. Unfortunately, as Cress and Chester hunt, Mars Uldole and his troops attack the village, looking for the pendant that seals Dhaos, and Ami is killed along with the rest of the villagers. Broken by the death of his last family member, Chester remains behind to bury the villagers as Cress flees to Euclid. Chester later reveals regret to Arche Klein for not having been able to avenge her, as Mars is killed by Dhaos before either Cress or Chester have any chance to confront him. Ami's death is Chester's primary motivation that spurs him on his quest and causes him to desperately hate Dhaos.

Ami Portrait (ToF1)

Portrait artwork for Tales of Fandom Vol.1.

  • In Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon, toward the end of the story, Chester remembers Ami and how they once were. He remembers the flowers that would bloom on her birthday but is sharply reminded that, though the flowers bloomed, Ami is not alive to celebrate and will never be again.
  • In Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, Chester reveals that he had made a beast-tamer costume to give to Ami, implying that he intended to train her in combat. In her absence, he instead gives it to Dio.
  • In Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2, when talking to Cress, Cress gives Julio Sven and Caro Orange a copy of the Mascot doll Ami made for him. Cress tells them that the doll was given to him by someone very important, but that person is now gone. Additionally, Caro can dress in an Ami costume by combining this Mascot item with her Wonder Chef costume. Ami's costume is a support role who can cheer, referencing her upbeat personality, and use food to heal, referencing her ability to cook.
