Bartlow (バルトロ Barutoro?) is a minor antagonist in Tales of Zestiria. He is a corrupt man who desires nothing more than power.
History[]
Bartlow is first seen after Sorey quells the hellions in the sacred sword festival. He is next seen with the other chancellors, Mathia, Simon, and Nathael, who wish to recruit the Shepherd. They even go far as to bribe him, but when they reveal that they are about to send Alisha Diphda to a plague town, Sorey refuses. In retaliation, Bartlow has soldiers attack Sorey. Both the Shepherd and the princess manage to hold their own until the arrival of the Scattered Bones, who reveal that they were hired by Bartlow to kill Alisha. They then warn Bartlow that they will not kill against their honor, essentially warning him about using them again. Free from their grip, Bartlow quickly raises the alarm in an attempt to cover himself.

Tales of Zestiria the X[]
In Tales of Zestiria the X, much like his game counterpart, Bartlow is conspiring to kill Alisha. However, he takes things to another level. Throughout the series, Bartlow does everything in his power to tarnish Alisha's name and strip her of her power, resorting to lies and deceit to reach his goals. This violence takes an unexpected turn when the king protects his daughter from a knife at the cost of his own life. Bartlow sees this as an opportunity to brand Alisha a criminal until his plan goes up in smoke when the knights who previously fought for him see his true colors. Deciding that death would be a release, not a punishment, Alisha tells Bartlow that he would be imprisoned for regicide. Desperate to win in the end, Bartlow throws himself off the balcony and falls to his death.
