The Blazing Sword (炎の剣 Honoo no Tsurugi?) is Alphen's secondary weapon from Tales of Arise. It is a blade so powerful, it burns the hand of whoever wields it, and the physical manifestation of the astral energy contained within Shionne Vymer Imeris Daymore's master core. Shionne's cooperation is required for it to be used.
History[]
While Shionne was able to draw the Blazing Sword before meeting Alphen, due to its nature she couldn't wield it. Some time later when Shionne, Alphen, and Zephyr are escaping from Zionne Mine Tunnels, the woman is shot in the chest with an arrow, resulting in the master core's energy bursting from where she was struck. When Alphen grips the arrow, he pulls out the sword and uses it to wipe out the Renans near the area. After the battle, Shionne dispels the Sword and they continue their journey. When she and Alphen assault Glanymede Castle, she grants her companion permanent access to the weapon, noting him that as long as she is with him, he can use the weapon.
Alphen temporarily loses access to the Blazing Sword after Vholran Igniseri kidnaps Shionne after the events at the Mobile Fortress Gradia. When he reunites with her after the battle with her thorns in Saxleoh Temple in Pelegion, Shionne once again grants Alphen the use of the Blazing Sword.
Gameplay[]
When Alphen has access to the Blazing Sword, his Iron Blade Boost Attack becomes Burning Wave. He also gains access to Flaming Edges, powerful Fire-elemental martial artes that are associated with his artes. Every time Alphen uses the Blazing Sword, he loses a portion of his HP, although he cannot be KOed, leaving him with only 1 HP. Outside of battle, the sword is also used to remove obstacles that blocks the party's progression. Outside of its original appearance, the Sword doesn't inflict damage on the user when he uses artes originating from it.
