Brute Lualdi (ブルート・ルアルディ Buruuto Ruarudi?) is an antagonist in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

History

Brute is the leader of the Vanguard and Marta Lualdi's father. Brute's ultimate goal is to rule Sylvarant and destroy Tethe'alla because of the segregation made by the Tethe'allans to the Sylvaranti. After the reunification of the worlds, he begins to doubt the Church of Martel's beliefs, which is strengthened with his wife's passing, and shortly after he creates the Vanguard to overthrow it. At first, he never had the intention of being crowned king of Sylvarant. However, he was manipulated by Richter with the power of Solum's core and soon became someone completely different.

Throughout most of the story, he sends numerous members of the Vanguard, such as Alice or Decus, in order to obtain Ratatosk's core on Marta's forehead, which he hopes will help in his liberation efforts. His plan to overthrow the Tethe'allans was to use the Mana Cannon aided by the cores' powers and destroy the main cities in Tethe'alla, in particular Meltokio and Sybak. After the final fight with Brute, he reveals that it was Richter Abend whom gave him the idea to revive the Sylvarant Dynasty and become king. He shortly disbands the Vanguard thereafter, ending the majority of the fights with the Vanguard. The night before Emil Castagnier and the others leave for the Ginnungagap, Marta tells Emil that the members of the Vanguard must be send to Meltokio to under go a trial for his action including Marta.

Fighting Style

Emil and the others face Commander Brute in two separate occasions, both in Altamira but in two different locations. One is at the basement of the casino after they defeat Hawk for the last time. Soon after Hawk is defeated, the group faces Brute and soon comes to realize that he is just too powerful and also holds possession of Solum's core. Soon after that fight, Emil and the others meet up with Brute again in the Lezareno Company. The second fight is where they finally defeat Brute. However, he is severely weakened when Decus removes Solum's core from him after the fight, in a state of insanity. In the first and second battle, he has the ability to cast Earth-, Fire-, and Dark-type spells and has access to his mystic arte, Ragnarok.

Trivia

  • Brute's mystic arte, Ragnarok, derives from Norse mythology. In Norse tradition, Ragnarok is the final battle that takes places at the end of days. During this battle, many major characters in Norse mythology, such as Odin, Thor, and Fenrir will be killed.
