Mobile Games

Technically, Tales Channel classes mobile games as, well, mobile titles as opposed to escort titles. Should we reflect the same in categorization? Lanate (talk) 01:05, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

I don't see a problem with it, but if we do, would we need to follow suit in other areas as well, such as the main page? That may be a daunting task. We could simply adjust the categorization and leave other areas alone.

Arosia (talk) 03:31, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm thinking of adjusting categorization for now. Lanate (talk) 04:21, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

We can delete this after you've seen it, but I didn't know of any other way to show you without publishing it. I'm not the best at sandboxing. I can't think of any other way to structure the main page with this new division. Any ideas? If we didn't want to include all of these mobile titles on the main page, we could simply provide a link somewhere and just include ToCE, ToBibliotheca, and ToLink on the Tales of Mobile page. Then again, is there a difference between mobile titles and the actual Tales of Mobile series of games? Also, wouldn't TotW:MD be considered a mobile title and part of the Tales of the World series of games, which we have classified as escort titles? As for the wiki navigation, I don't have room to add "Mobile Titles" as its own tab; as of now, it's classified under "Escort Titles" as "Tales of Mobile", referring to the series. Underneath that, I have ToT, ToB, ToC, ToW, ToCE, ToBibliotheca, and ToLink - the first four of which could be considered the main Tales of Mobile series titles, while the latter three are the newest mobile titles. I'm not really sure what to do, if anything.

I would suggest removing ToWB as a minigame, which doesn't need a space in the front.
Tales of Mobile is actually well-defined in terms of what it covers (basically everything mobile that predates the iOS and Android applications), so I don't think they should go on that page. What you currently have seems to work fine actually, and if it grows any more, we could always cut it down to Tales of Mobile and what comes after. Lanate (talk) 08:14, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, sounds good. I'll make the changes now.

Arosia (talk) 08:30, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

Quick question before I make these changes. Do you think we should list all of the escort titles together, seeing as we're listing all of these together? Dividing the "Mobile Titles" section into "Tales of Mobile Series" and "Other Mobile Titles" would make the page look lopsided, so should we do away with the "Tales of the World Series" and "Other Escort Titles" format above? If so, we would have to determine the chronological order of release dates for each of the games to conglomerate them into a single list that will be divided in the same manner as the "Mothership Titles" section and the "Mobile Titles" section I have above.

I'm about to go to bed. I'll work on this tomorrow after you reply.

Arosia (talk) 09:13, December 31, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, I listed all of the escort titles together, and I added the "Mobile Titles" section. See if you like that. If not, I do have an alternative:

I think it looks fine the way it is now, but if we don't want all of those mobile titles listed, we can go with the above instead, where the ToM series is simply one link, condensing the section to the same exact size as the "Animation Series" section. This change would involve removing the "Pre-order Extras" section entirely, unless we wanted to place them in the "Animated Series" section and simply rename the section "Animation". It would cause some lopsidedness, but it wouldn't be incorrect. The pre-order extras aren't all that vital for main page inclusion though - at least in my opinion. Anyway, these are our options.

Arosia (talk) 23:59, January 1, 2015 (UTC)

I think this looks great. I agree that we could slip the pre-order extras under the animation section, though they're almost the minigame equivalent of animation and can probably be removed without mattering much. I think what you have there looks perfect though. Lanate (talk) 00:36, January 2, 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I went with that. I do think it looks better. Thanks for the input! Oh, and tell you what. I will add those pre-order extras under the animation section once I add Tales of Asteria and Tales of Wallpaper Collection to the mobile section, which I plan on doing soon. That way, they will remain even. Thanks again!

Arosia (talk) 00:55, January 2, 2015 (UTC)

Done! We should be good everywhere now. Thanks for this catch, Lanate.

What's an Escort title?

I'm so confused. What's an Escort title? What's the difference between it and a main game? What being an "Escort Title" means is never explained in the Wiki.

An Escort Title is generally a non-mobile Tales of game and is not a part of the main series. This division comes from the poor reception of Tales of the Tempest and the company wanted to distant it from successful titles. However few months ago Bamco decided to simplify the title division in the series from Mothership, Escort, and Mobile Titles to Originals and Crossovers. This new division shakes things up a bit with formerly Escort and Mobile Titles since some of ETs are now classified as Originals.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 15:39, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

Do you know if there is any page where this "history" of the escort titles is explained and where it is stated that they simplified the title division? I would like to change it on our wiki, but not without a source from Namco.
