Mayu's list

This is taken from her notes she sent me. I think it's interesting that she was able to encompass the job classes of these protagonists, as it's something I've thought about in the past as well. I even tried categorizing them as such on the job pages, but as you can see, they're far too fluid, save the obvious ones like the standard set in ToP. Anyway, posting this here, and others can add to it if they want.

I actually have made a list on my computer that tries to assign Tales of classes to protagonists and antagonists alike, so I can add/change a few more things here if I may (also, I think that there's a bit of a thin line here between Swordsman and Warrior on that list you posted: I think that Swordsman is all those sword artes, while Warrior is more of axe artes even though they can use both one-handed swords and axes; shouldn't "Archer" be "Hunter" actually because that's the name of our main article?):

  • Suzu - Ninja (the card from Berseria assigns Suzu as a Ninja card, so...)

  • Rutee - +Priest

  • Chat - hammer user (can't think of a decent name)

  • Reala - +Summoner
  • Harold - Mage/Summoner

  • Colette - Twinringer (I made that name up since there's no official one in the series)/Thief
  • Presea - Warrior

  • Moses - Lancer (I know that Lancer is primarily close-quarter combat, but javelin tosses could be added to repertoir IMO)

  • Illia - Gunner/Priest
  • Ricardo - Gunner/Lancer/Mage
  • Hermana - Fighter/Priest
  • QQ - Lancer
  • Kongwai - Mage

  • Yuri - Swordsman/Warrior
  • Estelle - Swordsman/Priest
  • Flynn - Swordsman/Priest
  • Repede - "Beast"/Thief
  • Karol - hammer user
  • Rita - Mage
  • Raven - Hunter/Mage
  • Judith - Lancer
  • Patty - Thief/Gunner

  • Kor - Swordsman
  • Kohaku - Fighter/Priest/Mage
  • Hisui - Hunter/Priest/Mage
  • Ines - Swordsman/Brandish
  • Beryl - Painter/Mage/Priest
  • Kunzite - Swordsman/Fighter/Mage
  • Chalcedony - Swordsman/Priest
  • Gall - Swordsman/Warrior/Mage

  • Asbel - Swordsman
  • Sophie - Fighter/Priest
  • Hubert - Swordsman/Gunner
  • Cheria - Thief/Priest/Mage
  • Ricard - Swordsman/Mage
  • Malik - Bladeranger (another one I made up)/Mage
  • Pascal - Gunner/Mage/Priest/Summoner

  • Jude - Fighter/Priest/Summoner
  • Milla - Swordsman/Mage/Summoner
  • Alvin - Swordsman/Gunner
  • Leia - Lancer/Priest/Thief
  • Elize - Puppeteer/Mage/Priest
  • Rowen - Swordsman/Mage

  • Ludger - Swordsman/Gunner/Lancer/hammer user
  • Gaius - Swordsman
  • Muzét - Mage/Priest/Summoner

  • Sorey - Swordsman/Summoner
  • Mikleo - Lancer/Mage/Priest
  • Alisha - Lancer
  • Rose - Thief/Summoner/(Swordsman arguably)
  • Lailah - Paperist (few characters from ToZ and ToB use papers in battle so...)/Mage/Priest
  • Edna - Mage/Priest
  • Dezel - Mage/Priest
  • Zaveid - Gunner/Mage/Priest

  • Velvet - Fighter
  • Laphicet - Paperist/Mage/Priest
  • Rokurou - Swordsman/Thief
  • Magilou - Mage/Priest/(Paperist arguably, although it differs from Lailah/Laphicet/Seres paper use greatly, it's still some degree of card manipulation)

AyuMayu reporting in. Do keep in mind the context that this was before RadiMai 3 was announced, so classes like Gundam and Pie-rat did not yet exist beyond the chars who had those abilities. Also, Bishop/Priest and Bishop/Mage are redundant since a Bishop is literally a Mage/Priest.
The correct definition of a Warrior is one who combines bladed (sword/axe/wtfever) and unarmed fighting abilities. Cless is actually the textbook example of this. He is certainly the classic Tales sword user, but if you actually look at his artes, he has many self-buffing artes that are characteristic of martial artists, along with the Hienrenkyaku/Shishisenkou/Hououtenku-based artes. It could be said that this is the true nature of the Alvein School of Swordsmanship, to fight with one's whole body as a weapon, in combination with a sword that deliberately has a tonfa handle attached to it (inb4 "can't unsee"). If you ever have more than a passing interest in the original Narikiri Dungeon (the GBC version obviously, not the Londrine-retcons-everything version), you might notice that the Fighter branch of costumes specifically segregates these artes from the ones used by the Swordsman costume family, and yet both sets still derive from Cless's base abilities.
Stahn is the same, actually even more so after the remake because of Shining Finger Shakkouken and the tricks related to it. This is also why Luke belongs to the same category despite never being associated with an axe in any media. Swordsmen like Guy and Reid might have a few of the same abilities, but it's not really incorporated into their fighting styles to the same extent as those who regularly kick and punch the enemy as they fight even while using a weapon.
What Kaimi is talking about with axe-based artes actually is associated with the Brandish class. It's true that people think of that as the "big sword" class that copies Bagel, but it is also partially based on Ruca/Mary, and Ruca is very clearly the successor of both Presea and Mary's fighting style. Thus, both Mary and Presea qualify as the same, whereas Reid does not. Reid is really nothing more than a Swordsman who just happens to be able to equip an axe to fight and deal far more damage than sword-only Swordsmen in the RadiMai games-- and I thought I mentioned this trivial fact in my incomplete rewriting of Reid's page but I guess I wrote that somewhere else.
I mentioned this in the past, but I really don't like pidgeonholing chars in this series into particular classes, which is part of why I never published this list which was just the random result of idleness. It is true that there are chars who can fit into multiple designations, and it becomes a mess to organize them properly since there are people like the above who only look at their weapons as indicators of class instead of actually analyzing their artes and fighting styles, which would then prompt a long essay of explanations and justifications that can only be tl;dr'd into the word "no". Seriously, just because Moses uses a javelin, he should be a Lancer instead of a Hunter? (Sure, I wrote Archer but it's not like I ever played the RadiMai games myself so idgaf.) We discussed this to great lengths on the old TSF. Moses doesn't engage in melee, and many of his artes are stereotypical Hunter abilities. The actual style of weapon that he uses is meaningless, and likewise with the whole thing about axes. And as an addendum, I now prefer to classify Ricardo as a Gunman/Lancer/Mage since he is basically Eugene with some extra tricks. Even if we do disregard the weapons and look at their artes, this series has this maddening tendency to create completely unique artes that have no possible opportunity to be reprised in the future, like Richter's artes which are themed after the ancient Chinese roll of years (which got lost in translation). How the hell would one sort Richter into the existing classes, aside from "lol swordsman/brandish/twinsword/mage because dual-wielding sword and axe plus magic". It's nonsensical.
Also, inventing new terms again? On this site where fan inventions should not be used? I guess I really should just gtfo and stay o. It's clearly bad for my health to check on this place again, even if it was just random curiosity. You guys can do as you like with this list even if it does get butchered beyond recognition. Also, Hideo Baba can just isekai himself out of our world for all of the shit he put the fans of this series through, with his false promises and outright lies, like the one related to Tales of Innocence DS that I've repeated countless times. If there's anyone who caused me to hate this series as much as I did since the Tales Cycle started rolling in full force in 2007, it's him. I'm sure Truck-kun would love to meet him.
