The Crown Contest (領戦王争 Ryoushouousou / "Surudoburiga"?) is a competition between the Five Lords in Tales of Arise.
Description[]
The Crown Contest is held between the Five Lords of Rena every ten years. Each Lord governs one region of Dahna and uses whatever means available to harvest astral energy from the Dahnan people and planet itself. Most lords use Dahnans as slave labor by attaching a spirit core on them, which drains their astral energy. The collected astral energy is then stored within the Lord's Master Core, giving them the power required to compete with other Lords.
The Lord who wins the Crown Contest is granted the title of "Sovereign" and becomes ruler of Rena. However, all this is actually a lie. All the Lords who have won the Crown Contest never became Sovereigns. Instead, they were taken to Rena and placed into a tube, where all their astral energy drained from them. The true purpose of the Crown Contest is for the Great Astral Spirit of Rena to gather astral energy from Dahna for itself and reassemble Renas Alma, so that it can be used to recreate the Spirit Channeling Ceremony. With the successful creation of the Renas Alma, the Crown Contest is halted.
