Arte Description and History
Dark Sphere began as a strike arte used by the monster boss Tiamat in Tales of Destiny 2. In its appearance there, Tiamat summons an orb of darkness in front of it and deals damage to anyone caught in its confines.
In Tales of Symphonia, Dark Sphere becomes a spell. It is similar to Bloody Lance in that it is a Dark-element palette swap of a Light-elemental spell: Photon, in this case. It replaces Photon's usual bright yellow-gold with red and purple hues and features different sound effects. Dark Sphere summons a glyph that staggers the target before exploding and damaging anyone around them. It is also one of the few spells in the game unavailable to playable characters.
Dark Sphere returns to being a strike arte in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. In this incarnation, the user releases several small orbs of darkness with the added effect of restoring the user's TP based on the damage dealt. It is also the name of a spinner weapon that deals Dark-elemental damage and can put targets to sleep.
