The Dark Turtlez (ダークかめにん Daaku Kamenin?, "Dark Kamenin") is a joke character appearing in Tales of Graces, Tales of Zestiria, and Tales of Berseria, capable of being fought as an optional boss in all three.
History[]
Tales of Graces[]
In Tales of Graces, Dark Turtlez first appears near the border between Fendel and Windor. He can smuggle the party across the tightly-guarded border in exchange for gald. He later steals the party's swimsuits from the Beach Resort and hides them across Strahta. At the Turtlez HQ, the Turtlez Bozz will request that they find the Dark Turtlez, later revealed to be his son, and punish him for his crimes. He is encountered in the Zhonecage, recruited by Solomus into the Terma Ten, but is defeated by Asbel and his friends.
Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria[]
In Tales of Berseria, he used to be the White Turtlez (ホワイトかめにん Howaito Kamenin?, "White Kamenin") until repeated interactions and abuse at Velvet Crowe's party eventually ends with him transforming into his Dark form. He is first seen in Katz Korner, where he wears Victor's mask from Tales of Xillia 2, and even mimics his chromatus before fighting.
Over a thousand years later, during the events of Tales of Zestiria, Dark Turtlez is revealed by another Turtlez to have betrayed his clan. Dark Turtlez himself can be encountered at various points, as a traveling merchant under the name Dark Turtlez Emporium in the Vivia Subterranean Aqueduct, Glaivend Basin, the deserted village Camlann, and the Elaine Ruins. When the other Turtlez tries to fight him in Katz Korner, Dark Turtlez quickly overpowers his opponent. Shepherd Sorey and his group quickly come in to help and defeat Dark Turtlez.
Appearance and Personality[]

Dark Turtlez is a small humanoid with a dark-colored variant of the Turtlez attire. Throughout all of his appearances, Dark Turtlez is shown to be aggressive, violent, and unforgiving, unlike the traditional Turtlez. He engages in black market activities such as smuggling, and he steals the cast's swimsuits in Tales of Graces solely out of malice.
Fighting Style[]

In Tales of Graces, the Dark Turtlez fights from atop a massive Turtlez Transport modified for warfare. He attacks with charges, stomps, and swipes, with his mystic arte Moneyz Over Livez as his only named move.
Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria instead have him fight in his humanoid form, reverse-gripping a fish similar to a sardine in each hand, giving him a twin blade style, expanding his move repertoire with a variety of strike, martial, and hidden artes, and replacing Moneyz Over Livez with Final Furyz Blade. In Tales of Berseria, he has access to two variants of No Items Ever!, the signature move of Barbatos Goetia from Tales of Destiny 2: No Itemz For You and No Itemz Any More. As their names imply, they can activate instantly in response to the player attempting to use an item.
In Tales of the Rays, Dark Turtlez uses a red bazooka that he uses to either whack the enemy or fire projectiles. His mirrage arte is Omoisstarlight, a direct parody of Starlight.
Other Appearances[]
Tales of the Rays[]
In Tales of the Rays, Dark Turtlez appears as an optional character.
Trivia[]
- In Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria, Dark Turtlez's fighting style is taken directly from Julius Will Kresnik and Victor from Tales of Xillia 2, respectively, and so the cutscenes before and after the fight against him in these two games are a parody to the two.
- The Dark Turtlez's Final Furyz Blade and Omoisstarlight are parodies of Kohaku Hearts's Final Fury and Starlight. Both characters share the same Japanese voice actor.
- In Tales of the Rays, while Dark Turtlez is a playable character, the development team considers him to be an optional character due to the way he is acquired: spending 100,000 Prisms in the Turtlez Shop.
- In Tales of Berseria, it can be argued that White Turtlez transformed into a daemon when he became Dark Turtlez. What debunks this is that he has yet to be confirmed producing malevolence.
