Dedyme (デダイム Dedaimu?) is a minor antagonist in Tales of Arise. He is the leader of the Dark Wings, a Dahnan resistance organization that managed to wrest control of Niez from its lord, Almeidrea Kaineris.
History[]
Dedyme is the leader of the Dark Wings, whose organization managed to drive out Almeidrea by stealing the Renans' explosives and bombing them away, regardless of the collateral damage. When Alphen and his group arrive, Dedyme antagonizes them, showing contempt for them and the Renans among them. Angered, Dedyme asks why they are not killing each other. Alphen responds that the Renans are his friends. When Dedyme makes a really suggestive comment on Alphen and Shionne Imeris's relationship, Alphen strikes Dedyme in response. Dedyme then expels the group while his followers cheer, setting up his rule. He deliberately feeds Baephon incorrect information on Almeidrea's whereabouts so that his people can have the honor of capturing their lord. They successfully capture Almeidrea and set her up for a public execution. Unfortunately, he falls for Almeidrea's trap. The food at the execution is adulterated with Fruit of Helgan, and when the fanaticism of the crowd hits its peak, all of the watchers, including Dedyme, undergo the Hollowing, allowing Almeidrea to harvest their astral energy in the aftermath.
Appearance and Personality[]
Dedyme is a tall man with yellow eyes and short, grey hair. He wears a short-sleeve shirt, pants, and gloves, all in black, and an eyepatch covering his left eye. Due to being victimized by the Renans for so long, Dedyme's hatred for them has grown to the point where other lives matter little to him. Despite his reputation, each of the party clearly see that Dedyme has grown to become no better than the other Lords. However, a later sidequest reveals that, when he was younger, he always wanted to be a hero just like in the legend of the Dark Wings, even keeping a black owl as a pet due her resemblance to the owl in the legend. In addition, despite his uncaring attitude towards others, he truly cared about his mother, who he kept in the dark about how ruthless he had become.
