Devil's Hellfire

Devil's Hellfire as it appears in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Devil's Hellfire (魔王獄炎波, Maou Gokuenha^?, "Devil King's Flame Prison Wave") is a mystic arte used exclusively by Emil Castagnier from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Arte Description and History

Maou Gokuenha as it appears in Tales of the Rays.

Upon activating the arte, Emil holds his sword pointed toward the ground with both hands clasped around its hilt while he closes his eyes to focus his thoughts, with several flower petals falling around him. When he opens his eyes, he creates a field of dark energy around himself, granting himself with a large burst of strength. He begins a mad dash to the enemy, striking his target down before performing a combo of several slashes. At the end of the combo, he rises into the air and slams the ground with his sword, causing pillars of fire to rise from the ground and incinerate the foe. In Ratatosk Mode, Emil can extend the attack into Ain Soph Aur, but this ability is disabled after Emil has Verius, the Summon Spirit of Heart, seal Ratatosk.

In Tales of the Rays, this becomes Emil's Dark-elemental ending mirrage arte and its animation is altered as Emil's sword combo moves around the enemy instead of staying in place and the fire pillar is appropriately replaced by a dark pillar to fit the element. The location of the mirrage arte references Ginnungagap and the doorway to Niflheim.
