Falcon's Crest (ToS)

Falcon's Crest as it appears in Tales of Symphonia Remastered.

Falcon's Crest (天翔蒼破斬 Tenshou Souhazan?, "Heavenly Soaring Azure Rendering Slash") is the signature mystic arte that is used by Lloyd Irving in every game in which he appears, excluding Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, in which he uses an alternate mystic arte known as Divine Justice.

Arte Description and History[]

Tenshou Souhazan (ToVS)

When the mystic arte is performed, Lloyd channels energy in his Material Blades before leaping up and fusing his swords into one large blade, the Eternal Sword, which he smashes onto the opponent, causing immense damage.

In Tales of Symphonia, this arte cannot be used until close to the end of the game after Lloyd obtains the Material Blade from Kratos Aurion and Dirk, as well as gained the title "Eternal Swordsman". In addition to Lloyd, the strongest sidequest boss of the game, Abyssion, can use Falcon's Crest in the subsequent versions of the game. The animation remains mostly identical to Lloyd's version of the attack, although Abyssion uses the Soul Eater sword instead, wielding it with only one hand.

Lloyd can use Falcon's Crest as his mystic arte in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. Its animation is similar to the Tales of Symphonia version, though its conditions are simplified to be more uniform with the mystic arte activations for other characters. Even after getting a new mystic arte in his original game's sequel, Lloyd continues to use Falcon's Crest as his mystic arte in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3, and Tales of VS. with the same description and conditions as in the first installment.

Although Lloyd says the arte's name in the Japanese version, he instead shouts "Divine Justice!" in the localized version of Tales of Symphonia, even though the translation of "Tenshou Souhazan" has nothing to do with justice, and Lloyd himself states that he hates the word "justice". In the localization of Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, however, Lloyd simply says "Falcon's Crest" when using the move. In the English version of Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, the "Divine Justice!" shout is replaced with a battle cry.

In Soulcalibur Legends and Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, Lloyd executes the mystic arte without the Eternal Sword. Instead, he uses his regular twin swords to perform it.
