Tales of the Abyss is a 26-episode Japanese animation series jointly produced by Bandai Visual, Namco, and Sunrise. It is based on the PlayStation 2 game of the same name. Directed by Kenji Kodama, the first episode premiered in Japan on Tokyo MX TV on October 3, 2008. Two pieces of theme music are used for the episodes: one opening theme and one ending theme. The opening theme, "Karma" by Bump of Chicken, is the original opening theme for the source game. The ending theme is "Bouken Suisei" (冒険彗星?) by Kurumi Enomoto.
Unlike other Tales animated series, this particular anime chronicles the events of the game it is based on efficiently, condensing only when necessary and not adding any additional storyline. Being the longest Tales anime adaptation, it is able to follow the game's story without omitting major characters or events.
Beginning in January 1st, 2022, celebrating its first anniversary, the official Tales of Youtube Channel began uploading episodes of this series with English subtitles.
Story[]
Taking place in a fantasy world, the story focuses on Luke fon Fabre, a young swordsman whose pampered life turns upside down when he unwittingly becomes the target of a military-religious organization known as the Order of Lorelei, who believe him to be the key to an ancient prophecy. Together with his companions, Luke attempts to discover the truth and significance of his own birth, as well as unravel the mystery of the Score, a prophecy that has bound humanity's actions for thousands of years.
