Form Change (フォームチェンジ Foomuchenji?) is a gameplay mechanic exclusive to Tales of the Rays. It is a system where a character can use a different version of themselves in battle.
Function[]
A Form Change allows a character to change their appearance and arte set. A character can change into their Form Change when using the latter's mirrage arte from a helper and vice versa during a battle. Some characters have a unique gimmick that is exclusive to them such as altering their normal attacks after a combo of 50 hits or over. The system was mainly introduced to increase the number of playable characters as the roster of available characters decreases over time.
Form Change Characters[]
- Battle Spear Cress (戦槍クレス Sensou Kuresu?) - Cress Albane's Form Change based on Odin from Tales of Phantasia. He uses the Gungnir spear.
- Dhaos Final Form (ダオスファイナルＦ Daosufainarufoomu?) - Dhaos's Form Change based on his final form in the PlayStation and later ports of Tales of Phantasia, localized as Plume Dhaos.
- Fang (ファング Fangu?) - Lloyd Irving's Form Change based on his appearance in the "Echoes of Paradise" arc of Tales of Asteria. Fang’s arteset is altered from Lloyd's original arteset, around the kanji "Fang" (牙?).
- Spinning Fate Chosen (意志を紡ぎし神子 Ishi wo Tsumugishi Miko?) - Colette Brunel's Form Change based on her appearance in the "Echoes of Paradise" arc of Tales of Asteria.
- Yggdrasill (ユグドラシル Yugudorashiru?) - Mithos's Form Change based on his Cruxis guise from Tales of Symphonia.
- Ruin Bringer (破滅へと導く者 Hametsu he to Michibikumono?) - Kanonno Earhart's Form Change based on her appearance in the "Savior of Light and Darkness" arc of Tales of Asteria.
- Claw (クロー Kuroo?) - Yuri Lowell's Form Change based on his appearance in the "Echoes of Paradise" arc of Tales of Asteria. Claw’s arteset is altered from Yuri’s original arteset, around the kanji "Claw" (爪?).
- Schwann Oltorain (シュヴァーン・オルトレイン Shuvaan Orutorein?) - Raven's Form Change based on his imperial guise from Tales of Vesperia.
- Radiant Winged One (虹翼まといし者 Kouyoku Matoishimono?) - Duke Pantarei's Form Change based on his Fell Arms final form in Tales of Vesperia.
- Clad in Darkness Asbel (闇を纏うアスベル Yami wo Matou Asuberu?) - Asbel Lhant's Form Change based on his Puppet Wearing Darkness appearance in the "The Crystal That Sleeps in Avalon" arc of Tales of Asteria.
- Roar (ロアー Roaa?) - Milla Maxwell's Form Change based on her appearance in the "Echoes of Paradise" arc of Tales of Asteria. Roar's arteset is altered from Milla's original arteset, around the katakana "Roar" (ロアー?) for her strike artes.
- Conqueror Gaius (覇王ガイアス Haou Gaiasu?) - Gaius's Form Change based on his appearance in Tales of Xillia during the final battle.
- Full Chromatus Ludger (フル骸殻ルドガー Furu Gaikaku Rudogaa?) - Ludger Will Kresnik's Form Change based on his full Chromatus transformation in Tales of Xillia 2.
- Clad in Darkness Edna (闇を纏うエドナ Yami wo Matou Edona?) - Edna's Form Change based on her Puppet Wearing Darkness appearance in the "The Crystal That Sleeps in Avalon" arc of Tales of Asteria.
