Tenshou Kouyokuken (ToV)

Heavenly Bladewing as it appears in Tales of Vesperia.

Heavenly Bladewing (天翔光翼剣 Tenshou Kouyokuken?, "Soaring Brilliant Wing Blade") is a mystic arte used by Yuri Lowell and introduced in the PlayStation 3 port of Tales of Vesperia.

Arte Description and History[]

The arte involves the background becoming a celestial wonder as a glyph appears below Yuri, erupting light energy. Yuri spins his sword and gives it a charge of white light. The glyph then begins sending a tornado of light upward, in which Yuri directs the sword's light upward. Once the cyclone vanishes, Yuri's sword is seen to be in two "parts", with the bottom part becoming pure light, and the second half highly resembling a feather. Yuri then slams the blade down onto the opponents, dealing a single strike of massive damage. The light then spreads out to deal one more hit before finally vanishing afterward.

This mystic arte can only be used in the second playthrough or further. In order to use it, Yuri must be equipped with the Vesperia No. 2 (明星弐号 Myoujou Ni-gou?) sword and have an active Level 4 Over Limit status. Once these conditions are fulfilled, the mystic arte can be activated by holding the Attack and Artes buttons during any arcane, altered, or burst arte. This attack is also animated into the final cutscene of the game as the means used by Yuri to eliminate the Adephagos. The cutscene is the basis of the Douma Seietsuzan battle mirrage arte in Tales of the Rays. Ascending Angel in Tales of Berseria parodies this arte.

In the original release of Tales of Vesperia, there is a unused voice line and quote for this mystic arte where it was supposed to be named as Brillant Phoenix (鳳凰光翼剣 Houou Kouyokuken?, "Phoenix Brilliant Wing Blade").
