Helganquil (ToA)

A Helganquil as it appears in Tales of Arise.

The Helganquil (ヘルガイムキル Herugaimukiru?) are a race in Tales of Arise. They are the true native race of Rena. Unlike the other races, they do not appear to be biological, having the appearance of a humanoid form made out of crystals.

History[]

When the Great Astral Spirit of Rena first formed, it started devouring Rena's astral energy, gaining enough strength to dominate the entire planet. Subjected to the Great Spirit's mind control, the Helganquil attack anything regarded to be a threat to their master. However, despite their services, the Helganquil now face extinction. To bolster their numbers, they gathered a majority of Dahnan Mages to the space colony of Lenegis, re-engineering them into "Renans" as a means to replace the Helganquil. However, since they could not be directly controlled by the Great Spirit, more practical and technological measures were taken.

During the Crown Contest, they assumed the disguise of "Red Women" (赤い女 Akai onna?) that monitor the Five Lords as they store their astral energy from their regions into their master cores, while the Helganquil held the Dark master core within the Forbidden Zone on Lenegis. Invisible to Renans, these Red Women were able to walk freely without the Renan natives noticing. After the party assemble the five master cores, the Red Woman in charge of Ganath Haros reveals herself to the party along with the Dark master core. She uses it to combine the other five cores into the Renas Alma before disappearing with it.

A month later, the Helganquil fire "The Wedge" from Lenegis, and place Vholran in a chamber meant to act as substitute for the Maiden and perform the Spirit Channeling Ceremony to drain Dahna of its astral energy.

After traversing through the Forbidden Zone, the party discovers the chamber and attempt to disrupt the ceremony. To prevent them from interfering, the Red Women appear and expose their true form as Helganquil. Despite their numbers matching, the Helganquil are overmatched, with one of them resorting to suicide-bomb Alphen. Another Red Woman then appears and overloads the chamber before taking the Renas Alma back to Rena. To prevent the party from interfering any further, the Red Women ambush them on the Falneitz and banish them to the furthest confines of space that they can reach. This action inadvertently brings them to the one Helganquil who has broken free from the Great Spirit's control, Hevrekt-35.

After the Twin Worlds merge into a New World, only a few survive in hibernation, sealing themselves within Mausoleums.

Fighting Style[]

The Helganquil's unique tactics rely on fighting at distance with chakrams and teleporting, making them difficult to combat. They can also cast Dark-elemental astral artes.
