Hugo Simon (ユーゴ・シモン Yuugo Shimon?) is a playable character in Tales of Luminaria. He is a former Jerle Federation student who defected to the Gildllan Imperial Army following the events of Le Sant Village Memorial Ceremony Incident.
History[]
Hugo was born in 982 Y.C. in the village of Le Sant, Silvayer Forestdom, where he lead a peaceful life with his friends Leo Fourcade and Celia Arvier. However eight years later, war reaches their quaint home, resulting in its destruction and he along with his friends move to Treand Village, where they live in Celia's uncle and aunt, the Button family. In 998 Y.C., the three apply to the Aedis Knight Academy, scoring high enough to qualify for the Blaze Class exam. The final bout ends up as a duel between him and Leo fighting against Celia and Michelle Bouquet. Considering the girls weak, they don't put much into the fight and as a result lose the match, with the girls becoming official members of Blaze. However Leo and Hugo still make it into Blaze but as provisional members as ordered by the higher-ups.
In 999 Y.C., the Le Sant Village Memorial Ceremony Incident occurs, resulting in Hugo defecting to the Gildllan Empire. After he is sworn into the Army, he is made a member of Team Laurence, with Amelie Laurence as its leader. Another member of the team is Falk, a young man who shows great disdain towards Hugo, calling him "traitor" all the time. Their first order of business is helping the imperial forces on the border with Amr Qhaghan in which both forces reached a stalemate. Once they make into Amr Invasion HQ, they learn of a powerful Federation weapon deployed in Fort Horseshoe that prevents them from advancing. Hugo decides to brave Papalapa Marshes and storm the Fort alone, but Amelie and Falk join him regardless. Their assault bears fruit as they disable the cannon, allowing imperial soldiers to storm the fort and take it.
Appearance and Personality[]
Hugo has white-blonde hair, blue eyes, and strong tan. After he defects for the Empire, Hugo's wardrobe changes: he dons a black and green top that reveals much of his back and on his right shoulder he has a black and white pauldron to which a white, green, and black mantle is attached, mirroring Leo's pauldron and mantle. He wears white pants and shoes and black and green short gloves. His Embleo can be seen behind his left shoulder and the tattoo takes the motif of a wing.
As opposed to his childhood friend Leo, Hugo is stoic and and calm. He treats his elders with respect. He often keeps his thoughts for himself to the point that it worries both Leo and Celia, even if it wasn't intentional. Hugo is aware of his strength, a matter which can sometimes turn against him, like during Blaze Selection Exam where his moderation resulted in his loss. He likes reading books that he gets absorbed into things, requiring people to yell at him in order "to snap him out of it". He also have interest for the Gildllan Empire's Reactors and the Primordial Beasts' mana, despite that kind of thought being forbidden during his time at Blaze.
Like Leo, Hugo is heavily reliant of Celia's wisdom in both battle and daily lives as she was the one who provides support for them.
Fighting Style[]
Hugo's weapon of choice is a sword. When the Attack button is tapped, it is a chain of three slow, but strong slashes of his sword. When the Attack button is held, it activates Guard, a defensive maneuver that reduces incoming damage while preventing negative status effects. If Hugo guards before his enemy strikes, releasing the Attack button after receiving a hit will result in Hugo using Parry, a powerful counterattack that can knock down enemies around him, if he guards just a moment his enemy strikes, releasing the Attack button let him perform Perfect Parry, which nullifies damage and performs a powerful dashing thrust that knock down enemies in his path. When a Counter Icon is tapped, he deflects the attack and performs a diagonal slash, if another one is tapped, he deflects the second attack and performs a dashing thrust.
According to a student in the Aedis Knight Academy before the Blaze Selection Exam, his fighting style and weapon choice are meant to provide a good offense and defense, giving him a much versatile role.
