Incineration Wave

Incineration Wave (覇道滅封, Hadoumeppuu^?, "Mighty Overthrowing Seal") is a Fire-elemental strike arte associated with sword users in Tales series.

Arte Description and History

The user swings their weapon in front of them, releasing a beam of red light that deals damage in a chain of hits. Asbel Lhant's swings emit red trails, and he sends the beam with a slash. In Tales of Graces, it is one of the few artes whose execution changes between the Wii and PlayStation 3 versions. In the Wii version, using the arte twice in a row results in the full arte being repeated twice. In the PlayStation 3 version, the second arte is instead changed into a charge at the enemy. Asbel performs an uppercut that sends another beam of red light, calling this alteration "Infernal Blast". It is effective against spirit and nova enemies.

In Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, Gaius's version of the move releases the beam by extending his weapon-wielding arm straight in front of him.

In Tales of Arise, this is one of Alphen's Flaming Edges and his version takes inspiration from Asbel's variant, where he emits a trail of lava with an upward swing of the Blazing Sword. In Tales of the Rays, it is Alphen's master arte to his Metsu Majinken, replacing that arte when used either as the sixth or later action in a chain or during Burst Limits.

In Tales of Crestoria, Gaius has two units with access to the arte. His Unassailable Pride version maxes out at 138% attack power and increases his own ATK by 20% for two turns, while his Amidst the Chaos version decreases his enemy's DEF by 10 for turns, deals six more hits, and has a shorter cooldown by one turn while maxing out at only 130%. The version used by Asbel's Under an Azure Sky unit has no additional effects but has a maximum power of 270%.
