Judgment (ToS) — **Judgment** as it appears in *Tales of Symphonia*.

This article is about the Angel Skill and Fonic Hymn "Judgment". For other uses, see Judgment (disambiguation).

Judgment (ジャッジメント, Jadjimento^?) is a unique and often story-related Light- or Fire-elemental spell that is commonly associated with characters who can use healing magic, providing them with one of their few offensive options during battle. It is also the name of an identification arte used by Philia Felice.

Arte Description and History

Judgment's original form is that of an identification arte in Tales of Destiny. It is used by Philia Felice outside of battle to identify unknown items.

In Tales of Symphonia, it is altered to create several pillars of light that strike randomly across the full battlefield for a short period of time, with the implication of divine punishment. This form of the arte is more common than its predecessor, often used in Crossover Titles. The divine nature of the name also factors into its change for Philia in the PlayStation 2 release of Tales of Destiny, where she slashes down with her sword, encased in lightning. The strike knocks her target into the air and then attacks with a cross of light while healing her a bit.

It is also an Angel Skill in Tales of Symphonia, used by most of the angel characters in the game. It has two mystic arte upgrades: Colette Brunel's Holy Judgment and Zelos Wilder's Divine Judgment. In the original GameCube release of the game, Zelos is only able to use it when fought as an enemy, but he gains it as a playable ally in the subsequent releases.

In Tales of the Abyss, Judgment represents the fifth Fonic Hymn, representing the Fonon of Fire, and it can be learned by Tear Grants. The arte is also available to the final boss after he obtains his final form. For Tear to learn the arte, the player must attend a funeral service after clearing the second run through Mt. Zaleho and before the second run through the Absorption Gate. It is also a strike arte when used by Albert Grandeioza in Tales of Innocence R. He shoots an extremely powerful bullet of light from his gun.

Despite being renamed "Judgment" in Tales of Phantasia, God's Breath has no relation to the actual spell Judgment. The same applies to Judgment in Tales of Legendia, which is the localized name for "God Press", a third unrelated spell. Although it is not a spell that any playable character can use, an unnamed spell similar to Judgment can be cast by an angel as a result of Patty Fleur's mystic arte Summon Friends in the PlayStation 3 port of Tales of Vesperia, which will occur if the roulette lands on the wing icon.
