Kelzalik (ケルザレク Keruzareku?) is a major antagonist in Tales of Arise. He is a servant of Dohalim il Qaras, plotting behind his back.

History[]

Kelzalik is secretly appointed by Almeidrea Kaineris to test the effects of the Fruit of Helgan on the Dahnans of Elde Menancia. He doses the food in the fruit and records the effects. To keep from Dohalim from noticing, Kelzalik refrains from tainting the food of his personal guard. Whenever a Dahnan was discovered to show symptoms from the Fruit, Kelzalik and his conspirators would take them deep within the Razum Quarry, under the pretense of a medical facility down there, then leave them to hollow.

When Kelzalik sees the party with Migal, a Dahnan who learned of his conspiracy, he orders the guards to kill them, but is stopped by Dohalim, who decides to hear Migal out, much to the former's chagrin. Knowing that Dohalim would learn eventually, Kelzalik and his conspirators start an uprising, driving the Dahnans out of Viscint and arresting any Renans guilty of Dahnan sympathies. The party confronts Kelzalik in the Lord's Chamber, where he blames Dohalim for ruining the Renan hierarchy. His rebellion quickly crumbles when Dohalim reveals that he found and destroyed Kelzalik's production facility before banishing Kelzalik from Menancia.

Despite being aboard the Mobile Fortress Gradia, Kelzalik is not encountered by the party during their attack. When the ship capsizes, Kelzalik is washed onto a deserted island. With no other option, he writes a note in a bottle asking for help. By the time the party arrive, Kelzalik reprimands Dohalim for turning his back on the Crown Contest. When the former lord gives him a chance at redemption, Kelzalik goes insane, remembering the faces of the people he hollowed, before running away. Dohalim believes that deep down, Kelzalik felt remorse for his part in Almeidrea's cruelty. But without her to blame it on, Kelzalik lacks the mental fortitude to endure the guilt.
