This article is about the kingdom in Tales of the Abyss. For the protagonist in the same game, see Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear.

The kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, often shortened to Kimlasca, is Auldrant's more technologically-advanced nation in Tales of the Abyss. Kimlasca is former territory of the kingdom of Ispania, claiming its independence in N.D. 0447 during its war with the kingdom of Frank, betraying Ispania and aiding its opposition in destroying it completely. Some time prior to the events of the story, the independent country of Lanvaldear formed a treaty of unification with Kimlasca, and its royal family married into that of Kimlasca to strengthen that bond through blood. The symbol of Kimlasca resembles a sword with wings.

Geography

Baticul

Located in northern Aberria, Baticul, the Capital of Light, is the largest city in the world—with a population of 500,000—and the capital of Kimlasca. The city stretches high into the sky and houses both the Kimlascan Royal Family and their defending army. It is ruled by King Ingobert VI, alongside his daughter, Princess Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. Baticul is a tiered city with separate living areas for different social classes. The nobles and royalty live on the top tier, and the entrance-level tier is the shopping district, which also contains the coliseum. The different tiers are accessed by use of elevators around the city, while the port and Abandoned Factory are accessed by cable car. Baticul was created in the crater left by a giant fonstone that fell from the fon belt. The fonstone fell at nearly a vertical angle, leaving a high rim around the hole it created. The first settlers made their homes on that rim but later began developing the inside of the crater to obtain a more comfortable environment. Over many years, the seawater dammed, and a port was built. Buildings grew higher as the city's citizens searched for sunlight. Eventually, the fon-tech and fon machine revolution led to the installation of machines throughout the city. This industrial activity and the wideness of the land drew people from around the world, resulting in the city becoming the capital of the kingdom.

Belkend

Located in southwestern Aberria, Belkend, the City of Fon Machines, is a technological metropolis that specializes in researching fon machines. The city has a population of 250,000 and a nearby port that shares its name, Port Belkend.

Sheridan

Located in eastern Radessia, Sheridan, the City of Craftsmen, is a desert settlement famed for its research in fon-tech and fon machines. Of its many achievements, one of the most noteworthy is the Albiore, the world's first flying machine. The city has a population of 80,000 and a nearby port that shares its name, Port Sheridan.

Kaitzur

Located in southern Rugnica and technically both Kimlascan and Malkuth territory, Katizur, the Border Fortress, is a checkpoint station that separates the two kingdoms in the game, with everything north of the border belonging to Malkuth and everything south belonging to Kimlasca. Headquartering stations exist for both countries inside. The total population is 60,000. The Kaitzur Naval Port is directly south of the bordering station and is strictly Kimlascan territory, serving as a docking area and means of transportation to other locations in the kingdom, which include Port Sheridan, Port Belkend, the Kimlascan unit in Chesedonia, and Baticul.

Dungeons

  • Choral Castle - Choral Castle is located on Rugnica, south of Kaitzur and east of the Kaitzur Naval Port. It once served as the Fabre family's vacation home and was where Luke fon Fabre was found after his apparent kidnapping. The castle sits next to the sea, giving its atmosphere with a misty air. Having long been abandoned, the interior is old, dust-ridden, and unwelcoming, with several monsters and ghosts lurking throughout.
  • Abandoned Factory - The factory can only be accessed through the entrance-level tier's cable cars in Baticul. The factory formerly produced weapons; however, as its name implies, the factory is currently abandoned and overrun by monsters. The group is forced to use this route in order to bypass the God-Generals guarding the entrance to the city and reach Akzeriuth.
  • Deo Pass - Deo Pass is located on Rugnica, northeast from the Kaitzur Naval Port and leading to Akzeriuth. The path was built wide enough to accommodate carriages, but rock slides have since made it nearly impassable. The terrain is rough, with many large boulders and very few trees. Many ropes and makeshift ladders can be found throughout the trail.
  • Ortion Cavern - Ortion Cavern is a sea cave located on the southern side of Radessia. It is named after Saphir Ortion Gneiss, better known as God-General Dist, and serves as a replica facility for Van Grants during the events of the story.
  • Meggiora Highlands - The Meggiora Highlands comprise the northeastern half of the continent Radessia. The group ventures here to rescue Noelle's brother Ginji, who is suspended on a cliff in the Albiore.
  • Inista Marsh - Inista Marsh comprises the center of the continent Aberria. The group travels through the marsh in order to distance themselves from Baticul, where Luke and Natalia are wanted for treason.
  • Abyss Replica Facility - The Abyss Replica Facility is a bonus dungeon where the group finds replicas of Arietta, Largo, Legretta, and Sync—created by Dist. The dungeon is also home to the powerful Replicantis.
