Landon (ランドン Randon?) is a minor antagonist in Tales of Zestiria. He is the general leading Hyland against Rolance.
History[]
After war is initiated by the Rolance Empire, General Landon approaches Shepherd Sorey on behalf of Hyland's chancellors. It is revealed that Alisha Diphda has been detained on suspicion of collaborating with the Shepherd against Hyland, and that Sorey's aid on the battlefield would guarantee her safe release. Backed into a corner, Sorey consents to the chancellors' demands.
When Sorey arrives on the battlefield, he asks for Lucas's whereabouts, where Landon tells him that he is setting up an ambush on the right flank. Landon tries to get Sorey to obey his orders for a separate assignment, but the Shepherd walks away, saying that what he has to do does not change, no matter whose battlefield it is.
When Sorey inadvertently tips the scales in Hyland's favor, Landon carries out the order to wipe out the enemy to make the next victory easier. By this time, Heldalf the Lord of Calamity enters the fray and turns the remaining soldiers into hellions, including Landon. When Landon next sees Sorey he accuses the Shepherd of attempting to jeopardize his glory, and plans to make the chancellors reconsider Sorey's use by bringing them his severed head. Sorey is forced to go all out and defeat him, but due to the presence of the Lord of Calamity's domain, Landon is unable to be purified. Upon his defeat, the Hyland army is forced to retreat.
It is later mentioned that he had to be restrained by Hyland soldiers, but only after receiving injuries that all-but-guarantee his retirement.
Appearance and Personality[]
Landon is a broad, tan-skinned man with slicked black hair, and a short beard. He has a scar over his left, blind eye and wears a more formal version of the standard Hyland military uniform, likely to represent his superior rank.
In his hellion form, Landon appears as a large bear therian covered in gray fur. His military uniform is ripped open over his chest.
In the Tales of Zestiria the X, the battlefield is shown to be Landon's point of interest; he relishes in the thoughts of besting his opponents, and turns into a hellion when he loses his chance for glory. He seems to be mildly sexist, as he disregards the news of Alisha Diphda's arrival on the battlefield, questioning why a "little girl" would be there, and expresses anger when his men cannot best Alisha and Rose in combat. Landon does not let this pride affect the way he treats his superiors, however. When Alisha arrives to speak with him, Landon initially plays it safe by addressing and treating her with the proper respect.
Other Appearances[]
Tales of Zestiria the X[]
In Tales of Zestiria the X, General Landon makes his appearance at the end of season 1, when war is about to break out between Hyland and Rolance. The general has been given full authority over Hyland's army by Chancellor Bartlow, so when Alisha arrives and demands a truce be made with Rolance, Landon disobeys and orders his men to detain her. The soldiers battle Alisha and Rose, irritating Landon when the combined might of his men cannot so easily defeat the two girls. The fight falls in his favor when the duo are pressured from the men's attacks, as Alisha is adamant about sparing the lives of her attackers. When Rose takes matters into her own hands, Alisha stops her from killing a soldier and leaves herself open to attack, allowing one of the men to mortally wound her, which Landon cheers. The tables are turned, however, when the Wind Seraph Dezel intervenes, and Rose is able to take Landon hostage. As a result, his men stand down and Hyland calls a truce, just as Alisha wanted.
When Landon is next seen, he attacks Sorey as a hellion. The general expresses his anger at losing his chance for glory by defeating Rolance and intends to kill Alisha. Upon hearing the part he played in Alisha's near-death experience, Sorey contemplates killing Landon, but manages to remain true to himself, and instead purifies the man. Alisha assures Sorey that the general will be taken to Ladylake and tried for his crimes.
