Maltran (マルトラン Marutoran?) is a military adviser and Alisha Diphda's instructor in Tales of Zestiria.
History[]
Maltran was born in Marlind into a family of knights. With the death of the heirs, the succession was forced upon her, and she disciplined herself with her strong sense of responsibility, in time becoming known as the "Blue Valkyrie" (蒼き戦乙女?). Ten years prior to the events of the story, during one of the skirmishes between Hyland and Rolance, malevolence accumulated over the battlefield, which caused her jealous fellow countrymen to turn into lizardmen hellions and attack her.
A Rolance soldier who ran away in the midst of the battle witnessed them attacking her in a large group, which left him wondering how she managed to survive some ten years after her seeming death. In reality, the betrayal was the trigger for Maltran's transformation into a hellion.[2] Having lost her faith in humanity and deciding that destroying the world would result in restoring it, she joined forces with Heldalf, the Lord of Calamity. When she returned to Ladylake, she took the dreamy and pacifist Princess Alisha under her wing and began pretending to support her. With the help of the Princess, she began to incite actions within the Hyland council to push the war into an earlier start.

Maltran has careys pink eyes Turkish-rose hair tied with a black now decorated with a sky-blue rose.
Maltran dresses in an outfit similar yet more refined than Alisha's. Her attire consists of a bayoux jacket outlined with brandy gold, with a white, revealing corset underneath and a black choker. She wears protective armor on her forearms and legs. Her faded magenta hair is held back into a curly ponytail, and half of her face is hidden by her long bangs.
At first, Maltran seems supportive in Alisha's decisions, acting as a proper mentor to her. When her identity as a hellion is revealed however, she admits that it is all a front to serve the Lord of Calamity, preying on her naivete to stir up the war.

As Alisha's mentor, Maltran fights using a long spear and shares several martial artes and hidden artes, which allow her to attack from further away than the others and enable her to rapidly close the distance to her target. She also shares her mystic arte, which is Light Blast.
Maltran's battle style is also similar to Victoria's from Tales of Graces, having the same weapon of choice and sharing artes that are similar in appearance, including quick spear thrusts and spin kicks performed on the impaled spear.

Tales of Zestiria the X[]
In Tales of Zestiria the X, Maltran is not corrupted and never becomes an antagonist. Instead, she serves as a motherly figure and mentor to Alisha throughout the series, and expresses strong loyalties to her. Aside from the Princess, it is suggested that she also instructed the knights Shiller and Ian.

Trivia[]
- Maltran's manner of clothing is similar to Victoria's from Tales of Graces in that they both wear predominantly blue outfits with knee-high boots and white pants. Both of them also wear their hair in ponytails, although Maltran's is longer than Victoria's. This may be one of many nods to the battle system, which Tales of Zestiria draws inspiration from Tales of Graces.
