Nazar[1] (ナーザ Naaza?) is an antagonist in Tales of the Rays and Mercuria's brother.
History
Nazar was born as a prince into the Bifrost Kingdom as Woden Rot Nibelung (ウォーデン・ロート・ニーベルング Uooden Rooto Niiberungu?), alongside his little sister Mercuria and mother Elda. He heard from Yalanda's prophecy that mirrites would bring about the ruin of the world, so he played a part in the raid against Sellund's mirrists, who had continued exoflecting them. After Ix Nieves was killed, he died alongside the rest of the nation when Gefion and Phillip Reston completed the Kaleidoscope.
Mirrage Prison
In the story, Nazar appears in the body of the first Ix, as part of the Living Doll Project. This brings much confusion to the protagonists, as they struggle to figure out his true identity.
It's revealed that the true reason he uses the first Ix's body was to allow Nazar to manipulate the growth of the mirrage crystals, since his body was connected with Ix's. He's also able to hear things via Kocis, as he's Ix's mirrite.
In the finale, he tries to hinder them from saving Ix, as doing so would result in his disappearance, and because he believes him to be "the man who will bring about the destruction of the final world." He insists that Yalanda's prophecy be taken more seriously, and lectures Mileena Weiss on just how little she really knows, insisting she heed his words. Nazar fails, however, and ends up dying upon Ix's rescue, much to Mercuria's grief.
Fairy's Requiem
After his "death," his spirit returns to reside in the Void once more, while his body was preserved. Aster Laker mentions that they had experimented on him, which is how they knew that Ix was compatible with Aska in the form of Spirit Gear. Seeing how much grief Mercuria was in, Junior eventually reached out to him and requested his aid, successfully bringing him back to life once again in the first Ix's body.
When Mercuria ends up possessed by the soul of her late mirrite, Morrigan, and unleashes an army of dead mirrites, Nazar teams up with Ix and Mileena in a three-way battle to save her while also fending off a suddenly appearing Barbatos Goetia seeking to kill her. The brute's assault distracts Morrigan just enough for Kor Meteor and the rest of his friends to restore Mercuria's spiria and drive out the mirrite.
After recovering from the battle, Nazar, Mercuria, and the rest of their band depart on their own journey to oppose the Empire. Joining them is Kocis, now burdened by recent revelations of his existence and believing that staying with Ix's group would only bring disaster.
Appearance and Personality
While it is never seen what he looked like as Woden, as Nazar, he wears a black outfit accented with red, with a red cloth draped over his shoulders. He has a black belt, a metal arm, and keeps his hair tied up.
Nazar is very straight-forward in his ideals and is not afraid to speak his mind. He's kind to his subordinates and beloved by Mercuria, and he expressed his condolences to Presea Combatir when he learned her sister had passed away. He bears a deep hatred against the mirrists of Sellund, both for continuing to exoflect mirrites and for bringing about the fall of his nation. He is also shown to be very wise, and takes Yalanda's prophecy very seriously, valuing its logic over anyone else's.
Fighting Style

Nazar fights with a sword and dagger. However, until becoming a playable character, he fights exclusively with a sword and shares his fighting style with Ix. Afterwards, he begins wielding his dagger and uses variations of Ix's artes with different elements and some unique artes of his own.
Trivia
- Nazar is a reference to the Irish king named Nuada Airgetlám. He lost his arm in a war and later had it replaced with a metal one, just as the original Ix lost his and was later replaced when Nazar became a Living Doll. In-universe, Mileena states that "Nazar" is the name of the god of the sea.
- Woden is a god in Norse mythology. Nibelung refers to a clan of people in Germanic legend, usually associated with kingdoms.
