Resist as it appears in Tales of the Abyss.

Resist (レジスト Rejisuto?) is a support spell that was once associated with the Ice element. It has also appeared as a passive skill.

Arte Description and History[]

In most games, Resist is a spell and passive skill that commonly raises the elemental or magical defense of one ally. It first appears in Tales of Eternia as an Ice-elemental Craymel Arte. As a skill, it comes in several forms with enhancements: the base Resist, Resist 2 (レジスト２?), Resist 3 (レジスト３?), and Resist 4 (レジスト４?).

In Tales of the Abyss, if Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear uses this spell within a fully charged Earth or Dark FOF Circle, it will be converted into Anti-Magic. Likewise, in Tales of Vesperia, Estelle can alter this spell into Resist Field with the Dispersion skill equipped. This game also has its own passive skill with the same effects for all playable characters, obtained with three different ranks, though the effects will only work if the equipments are equipped before battle. In the PlayStation 2 version of Tales of Destiny, it is one of type jewel types that adds the magical defense increase to the Charge action.

Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Hearts both provide an alternative passive skill that decreases the chance of receiving status effects. In Tales of the Tempest, this effect version is adopted as a spell, preventing all possible status ailments for twenty seconds.
