Shield (シールド Shiirudo?) is a recurring arte and passive skill in the Tales series.
Arte Description and History[]
As a magic arte in Tales of Legendia, Shield raises a single ally's physical defense temporarily, taking on the same role of Barrier used in other games as a defensive status boost. It has a party-wide version in Shelter and an opposite in Antishield.
As a passive skill in Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut, it is available to Rutee Katrea through the Swordian Device for Atwight Eks, and its description states that it prevents critical damage from all enemy attacks. The actual effect increases max HP, which matches the Stamina skill, due to a possible glitch. It is also a passive skill in Tales of Graces and Tales of Zestiria with the aim of preventing stagger during casting.
In Tales of the Rays, Natsumi Hinata produces a shield in her left arm and her personal Beam Saber in her right hand. She then places the shield in front of her. If attacked during this state, or after a delay, she performs a downward slash with the sword.
