Shining Torrent (閃剣斬雨・駕王閃裂交 Senkenzan'u Gaou Senretsukou?, "Flashing Blade's Slashing Storm - Flying King's Flashing Cleave Fellowship") is a linked mystic arte used by Ludger Will Kresnik and Gaius in Tales of Xillia 2.
Arte Description and History[]
Gaius swings his sword, and spears of light rain down from the sky, continuously striking the target and the area around it. Ludger runs through the raining light spears, grabbing two of them while Gaius runs beside him. They both then slash through the target, causing all of the light spears behind them to radiantly explode.
If Ludger has enough affinity points with Gaius, the name of this mystic arte can be changed to Sound and Fury (我威留怒・魂微音維紫苑 Wairudo Konbineishion / "Wairudo Konbineeshon"?, "One's Mighty Detaining Fury - The Spirit's Fainting Sound Jointed Violet Garden" / "Wild Combination"). The alternate name is a reference to the bond between Gaius and Wingul, as it was the name of their combination attack. In English, Sound and Fury is part of Gaius and Wingul's battle jingle. In Japanese, the kanji is actually wordplay, being read as Wa-I-Ru-Do-Kon-Bi-Ne-I-Shi-On and sounding like "Wild Combination". That wordplay is a cipher that Gaius and Wingul shared.
