Light Blast (翔破裂光閃 Shouha Rekkousen?, "Soaring Splitting Light Flash") is a mystic arte introduced by Judas in Tales of Destiny 2.

Arte Description and History[]

Light Blast (ToZ) Alisha

Light Blast used by Alisha Diphda in Tales of Zestiria.

This arte is recognized typically as a rapid series of thrusts into the air with a weapon imbued with holy energy. Each interpretation of this arte differs with the initial effects before the enemy is launched upward, as well as the duration of the attack itself.

In its original form, Judas extends this from Houryuu Zankouken, after which he turns to the target to perform a downward-rightward slash with his sword, then a downward-rightward slash, before slashing upward with his dagger, forcing the enemy into the air. With his swords glowing yellow from the power of light, he thrusts his sword into the air repeatedly with a flurry of stabs before stepping backward to taunt the enemy.

In Tales of Rebirth, it is the Fusionic Force Finality of Annie Barrs and Eugene Gallardo. Annie begins by spinning in a circle, drawing a glyph of energy beneath her and Eugene that empowers Eugene with her Force. Eugene thrusts at the enemy, before performing a downward-leftward slash, followed by flinging the spear upward, sending the enemy airborne. He then proceeds to use Annie's Force of Rain to rapidly stab into the air for an extended period of time, as rays of light shine around the spear tip and a glyph appears mid-air, pinning the enemy in place. This is the only mystic arte in the game that requires an event to unlock its use due to the importance of Annie's final understanding and appreciation of the Gajuma race represented by Eugene.

Light Blast is downgraded significantly in Tales of the Abyss, in which both Luke fon Fabre and Asch have it as an FOF Change. The arte is activated by using Light Spear Cannon in a fully-charged Wind or Light FOF Circle. When it is activated, the character merely tosses their opponent into the air immediately with a small spin with an upward slash, followed by a diagonal thrust that create the effect of a spiral of golden-green light projectiles around the blade, pushing the enemy backward without knocking them down with the final strike. Unlike Luke and Asch, Nebilim does not have the requirement of an FOF Circle; she can use the same attack at will without activating an FOF Change, but any Wind or Light FOF Circle will be depleted if she stands on one while she activates the arte. The initial spin includes a spiral of light that rises up around the user. The direction of the spin is clockwise in Abyss and Tales of VS., and counterclockwise in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3. In Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave, it takes the form of a counterclockwise-spiraling drill that launches enemies upward.

In recurring appearances, Luke will use it as an arcane arte, whereas Eugene will use it as his individual mystic arte without Annie's assistance.

In Tales of VS., Eugene twirls his spear clockwise before plunging it into the ground, conjuring the glyph of power that damages everyone around him while empowering his spear. He then stabs upward before thrusting straight, then slashes down-left, then upward, launching the target into the air. Eugene finishes by thrusting upward summoning a spiral of green light that damages the enemy.

In Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3, Eugene uses it as his own mystic arte, while the rest of the characters from Tales of Rebirth have their own mystic artes without their corresponding partner. In this title, the spear twirl and the first upward stab from V.S. are removed, and the empowering glyph does no damage to enemies, though the mid-air glyph from Rebirth, that was absent in V.S., makes an appearance.

In Tales of Zestiria, this is Alisha Diphda and Maltran's mystic arte. The user slashes right, then left, then upward, sending the opponent into the air. She then skewers the airborne enemy before performing a series of thrusts, as projectiles of light shoot out around her. Depending on the user, the camera changes direction.

In Tales of Asteria, the first two slashes are replaced by a single, upward-leftward slash.

In Tales of the Rays, this arte is Luke's Light-elemental reward mirrage arte. Like the original, he initiates with a toss to his target in the air, but the spiral from said slash is replaced with a shockwave that creates multiple Light-elemental thrusts. Later on, it would become Eugene and Annie's Light- and Earth-elemental crossover mirrage arte. Annie conjures a glyph beneath herself and Eugene that envelops her staff in blue energy and his spear in red. Eugene then darts toward the target and launches them with a mighty, upward swing before thrusting at them, followed by projectiles of light, sending the enemy careening into a red orb. Both Eugene and Annie throw their weapons at the enemy, causing a blast of light.
