Game Tales of Xillia 2
Country Elympios

Spirius Corporation (クランスピア社 Kuransupia-sha?, "Clan Spear Company") is a major organization in Tales of Xillia 2. It is a corporate giant well established in Elympios, whose products are used widely throughout the land due to the company's involvement in many industries, from everyday consumables to military technology. That includes but is not limited to fields ranging from medical, development, investigation, economics, law, communications, and entertainment.[1][2] Spirius prides itself in this fact through the catchphrase "From tissue paper to air battleships".

Description[]

Though it is a corporation made up of civilians, Spirius holds a lot of political and economic power. Spirius owns the highest technological power in all of Elympios, and they often arrange joint ventures with its government, such as the Oscore Plant, whose output was meant to surpass that of any other facility in Elympios and stabilize Elympios's food supply. Another good example is the Lance of Kresnik meant to destroy the schism[2] that eventually fell on Exodus' hands, as seen in Tales of Xillia. It also has several affiliations, such as with the Verland Bank. Spirius had a huge hand in building Marksburg, and according to one of the people who worked in it, a town of such proportions would have never come together in just one year without this involvement. They also own the E.S.S. Pelune.

Specialists for each division of Spirius are known as agents. They are respected all over the world, with some of them becoming so popular that they have their own fan clubs, such is the case for Rideaux or Julius. Many people, including the protagonist Ludger, aspire to become Spirius agents someday due to the good pay and high reputation. The company's extensive influence isn't viewed positively by everyone, however. Some citizens express suspicions about possible shady business happening behind the scenes, such as with Spirius's initial support of the Otherworld Reactor Plan, and how it was dropped right away after the schism was dispelled. In the past, Spirius presidents have also been attacked by those who feared the influence of the company on society. Bisley, who holds the position of president at the time, has a security team assigned that he's seen accompanied by at the start of Tales of Xillia 2. Guards can also be seen by his successor's sides in the Ludger Ending.

Geography[]

The main building of the Spirius Corporation can be found at Trigleph Technology Drive (トリグラフ チャージブル大通り Torigurafu Chaajiburu Oudouri?) near Trigleph Central Station, and it is mentioned to be the biggest skyscraper in Elympios.

The headquarters have forty floors and two elevators. Accessible to the player are 1F, 10F, 20F, 30F and 40F. 1F is the entrance. 10F and 20F are made of offices. 30F is specifically the Department of Dimensional Affairs. 40F has both the Vice President's office, which only becomes available after Ludger's promotion during main story events, and the CEO's office. The Agent Training Facility is located under the building, and part of it leads back into town.

According to a Spirius employee, the foliage plants inside Spirius are real, and only Spirius developed the technology that makes that possible.

History[]

Past[]

Spirius was founded by the Bakur family during the era of Milla Kresnik[3][4], in order to put an end to the infighting that had broken out within the clan over who would get their wish granted for completing Origin's Trial, and it eventually grew into the corporation shown in the current era[5]. Its true purpose is the exploration and destruction of fractured dimensions, to slow the creation of more fractured dimensions and prevent further dispersion of soul energy from the prime dimension, and to find the Key of Kresnik and the Waymarkers. At the current day, Spirius continues destroying fractured dimensions in secret and looking for the way to reach the Land of Canaan.[6]

In Primia 4282, 23 years before the events of Tales of Xillia 2, Bisley succeeded his father as the head of the family and CEO of Spirius.[3][7] Sometime afterward, Bisley established an agent system with ranked titles. Within this system, the more someone advances in rank, the more difficult the job will become, but the reward will be that much greater too. The agents who get the "Crown" rank are considered the best representatives of Spirius Corporation. Julius is the only person who is known to hold this position before and during the very start of Tales of Xillia 2, until he flees after becoming a wanted man. There is a higher rank, that of "Victor", which is left for a full Chromatus user who possesses the Waymarker of the strongest Chromatus bearer. Before and during the events of Tales of Xillia 2, said title is in possession of Bisley. The giant machine in the middle of the headquarters, the Kudlak Claw, is also Bisley's invention.[8][2] The Kudlak deprecated the prior method of spyrix use to detect fractured dimensions. Much like everything else related to Origin's Trial, the Kudlak's real purpose is hidden to the public, and it is disguised instead as an experimental spyrix intended for weather control on wide areas to prevent nature from dying out in Elympios.

Bisley also created the Department of Dimensional Affairs (分史対策室 Bunshi Taisaku Shitsu?) or DODA for short. It is a small, unofficial and secret department composed of chromatus bearers and their support agents. The company doesn't skimp when it comes to its goal, and invests a great deal of money and technology, with the DODA having access to these resources. The stronger agents, those who can use at least a half Chromatus, are particularly tasked with the Waymarkers.[8] Some are both working in the DODA and in a different division. This is the case for Rideaux and Julius, Vice-Director and Director of the DODA, who are also involved in the medical field and technology development division respectively. Among Julius's inventions, there is the GHS tracking system, as well as the optimization of its size, while Rideaux is responsible for several aspyrixis theories and achievements. Rideaux is also promoted to Director by the start of Tales of Xillia 2, after Julius loses the position.

It is said that famous Spirius agents usually quit before they reach their forties. It is very likely that this is tied to their DODA work, and the fact that using the Chromatus makes the user eventually degenerate into a divergence catalyst.

Tales of Xillia[]

As mentioned previously, Spirius and the government collaborated on the Otherworld Reactor Project. The goal was to collect the Waymarkers trapped past the schism, in Rieze Maxia. Their support was quickly dropped once it became unnecessary due to the actions of Jude and Milla Maxwell at the end of Tales of Xillia, and they instead opted for a peace stance. Marcia, who had a good relationship with Spirius and was also pro-peace, became Chancellor shortly afterward.[4]

According to a citizen, once the schism was dispelled, Rieze Maxia appeared along with several unknown monsters who invaded from there, and it was Spirius who swiftly handled the situation.

Tales of Xillia 2[]

At the moment of the game, according to a Spirius employee, there are about thirty Chromatus bearers within the Department of Dimensional Affairs, and only a handful of those have a power strong enough to enter fractured dimensions with high depth levels, including the former Director Julius.

Ludger is promoted to Vice President after Chapter 14, a position that is implied to have been empty or non-existent before him. If the Ludger Ending is achieved, Ludger also becomes the CEO of Spirius following Bisley's death. It is unknown who becomes Bisley's successor, or what happens to Spirius, in the other endings.

Trivia[]

  • Milla Kresnik, the progenitor sage and ancestor of the Kresnik clan that was tasked with proving humanity's worth, famously used a spear.[9][10] With Spirius being established back when she lived, and the spear of the Chromatus being used to destroy divergence catalysts, the motif under the Japanese name "Clan Spear" is obvious.
  • It is mentioned during the game that Spirius is the only group with a two-state united task force.
  • It is also mentioned that, due to Trigleph's population growth, there is a need of expanding the subway system, but the Spirius's underground facilities are in the way.
  • The company motto, "Innovation through evolution" (破壊と創造 Hakai to Souzou?, "Destruction and Creation"), can be seen in several places, such as engraved on the membership emblems and after entering the headquarters, over the entrance.
    • Though the Elympion used in the game can usually be deciphered into logical Japanese sentences, the characters used for the motto translate into the gibberish ぶめ (Bume?).
