By the way, can someone check if the katakana for Fire Ball is right in ToP SFC and ToD PSX? It seems like they have a ー more than the latest versions.

Quick check of the SFC Phantasia shows that it uses the extra ー. Majestic Phantasian says that PSX Destiny and Phantasia use the extra ー, but the GBA doesn't. It's right for the GBA, but I don't have either of the JP Destiny or Phantasia to check. I don't know about PSP Phantasia either. Lanate (talk) 16:52, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I already checked them. Well, videos of them, since I'm not about to go download roms of those outdated games. It's exactly as I wrote in the article - Phantasia SFC and Destiny PSX are the only games that label Fire Ball with the extra vowel extension. All ports, remakes, and Narikiri Dungeons go by the current name.

Localization recurrence[]

From what I see "Fire Ball" is the localization in 8 games, while "Fireball" is the localization in 6 games (ToLink includes both variations; spirits, why?), so at the moment this article should be named "Fire Ball", correct, since it's the most recently recurring name?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:35, August 21, 2017 (UTC)

Lanate is out of the country at the moment and fairly busy, but I'm going to leave this for him when he has the time because I'm not sure if it's this way for a reason or not. I sometimes can't remember our rule for it.

Also, I noticed that on arte list pages where Fireball appears and the game has not been localized we rend the unlocalized name as both "Fireball" (link) and "Fire Ball" (link). Can we please decide how are we going to render unlocalized "ファイアボール / ファイアーボール"? Personally, I'd go with "Fireball"; I think it's the more "intuitive" and recognized spelling.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 11:29, August 26, 2017 (UTC)

It definitely should be made consistent across the board, but that is Lanate's area so I will leave it for him to decide.

In defense of ToLink, they're consistent with the playable units, and for enemy units, they use the localization of that character's game of origin. The page should probably be moved to Fire Ball. I'll make the default spelling to be Fireball for Japanese pages. Lanate (talk) 00:30, August 29, 2017 (UTC)
