Thorns

The "thorns" (＜茨＞, Ibara^?) is a term used to describe Shionne Imeris's "curse" in Tales of Arise.

History[]

So-called after their appearance, Shionne's "thorns" inflict searing pain on any who try to touch her. She prefers not to talk about them. In truth, this curse is due to having fragments of the Renan Great Astral Spirit's core, passed down hereditarily, stemming from Shionne's ancestor Naori Imeris. They are thought to have lain dormant inside the maiden ever since the Spirit Channeling Ceremony failed.

Trivia[]

In various skits related to Shionne's childhood, Shionne mentions that she was experimented on ruthlessly to discover the secret to the thorns.
- Naori was only able to seal this curse away with her maiden powers as a means to have children, and likely passed the secrets down to future generations. Shionne likely lost her entire family in her youth before they could teach her, which could explain her lack of control over the curse.
