Thunder Blade (サンダーブレード Sandaabureedo?) is a classic Lightning- or Wind-elemental spell that has appeared frequently in several games throughout the Tales series.
Arte Description and History

Thunder Blade as it appears in Tales of Destiny (PSX).
In Tales of Phantasia, Thunder Blade involves hitting the entire screen with a large and instant electric blast. Since then, its animation has changed twice. This spell is now known more typically for summoning a large sword of lightning in the sky, which pierces into the ground to create an electric shock that affects a circular area around the impact point. In Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2, the blade spins around the user like a corkscrew before piercing the ground. However, this spell appears with a distinctly different animation in Tales of Eternia, in which the spell summons a long lightning sword from the bottom of the field behind the caster's position, which swings back to the right to toss enemies into the air. This same animation style was repeated in Tales of Legendia and the remake versions of Tales of Destiny.
In Tales of Symphonia, Thunder Blade is available to Genis Sage if he is aligned with the "Technical" branch of artes. If he is associated with the "Strike" style, he learns Spark Wave instead. This does not apply for Kratos Aurion and Zelos Wilder, as both acquire Thunder Blade, regardless of their branch affinity.
In Tales of the Abyss, this spell is introduced as part of the Wind element due to the lack of a dedicated Lightning element in the game. For Jade Curtiss and most enemy characters, using Thunder Blade within a fully-charged Earth or Dark FOF Circle changes the spell into Gravity Well. Thunder Blade must be fully mastered to unlock Jade's second mystic arte, Indignation, during a second or later playthrough.
Thunder Blade appears as an altered arte learned by Rita Mordio. Like other lightning-themed attacks in Tales of Vesperia, the spell is both Wind- and Fire-elemental. The spell can be learned if Rita casts Blade Roll with the "Hell Fire" and "Gale" skills equipped, until Thunder Blade itself is mastered and enabled as a separate arte. Similar to Tales of the Abyss, the PlayStation 3 and Definitive Edition versions of the game requires this spell to be used in order to learn the mystic arte Indignation.
In Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, this arte appears as a Lightning-elemental arte available to Zelos Wilder throughout the game and Genis Sage starting in Chapter 7. Monsters can also learn this through the tome "Volt's Melancholy". In Tales of Graces ƒ, Thunder Blade makes its debut as a strike arte. While the Fodra Queen is in her mobile, sword-using form, she can use Thunder Blade to attack with a line of lightning bolts.
In the collaboration event with Star Ocean: Anamnesis, Dhaos performs a variation called Thunder Blade - I (サンダーブレード・異?, "Thunder Blade - Foreign"), referencing his nature as an alien on Aselia.
