Tractor Beam (トラクタービーム Torakutaabiimu?) is a classic spell in the Tales series and one of the few offensive spells almost consistently of no element.
Arte Description and History
Throughout most of its appearances, Tractor Beam lifts the enemy into the air before dropping them down. In some games, such as Tales of Phantasia, flying enemies are immune to this by default. Arche Klein is immune to it as well, due to her flying on her broom in battle. There is also the "Stone" item that makes the user immune to the spell.
In Tales of Eternia, the spell is used by Maxwell and is uniquely implemented as a glyph moving across the battlefield, which will automatically cast Tractor Beam on the party member standing over it. In Tales of Legendia, Tractor Beam works slightly differently; instead of slowly lifting the target, the beam uses a strong jolt of gravity to vault the target upward into the air. The area of effect is quite narrow with this version. In Tales of Vesperia, Rita Mordio's version of the spell causes damage to the target area while the enemies are being lifted by the beam before dropping them down for a final hit.
